Cinta Costera gets the NIMBY Carnival

The Carnival that no one wants in their back yard will take place on the Cinta Costera says Salomon Shamah, who heads Panama’s tourism authority.

It will be located from the Seafood Market down to the former María Auxiliadora school on Calle 30 far enough away from the San Tomas and Children’s hospital, so as not to disturb them he says. There would be no culecos (spraying of celebrants with hoses) tp protect the coastal strip
Speaking on the Telemetro Reporta news program, Shamah sais the carnival site will stretch over a kilometer.
While announcing “no culecos” on the Cinta Costera, there was no reference to an earlier statement from the Minister of Health that there would be no culecos anywhere in the interests of water saving.
The 2011 Carnival queen will be chosen February 15 at the Anayansi Theater in the Atlapa Convention Center.

The Carnival will run for four days leading up to Lent from March 5 through 8.
