Panama decries use of force against demonstrators in Egypt
As countries around the world rush to organize massive airlifts to get their citizens away from the turmoil in Egypt, Panama’s Foreign Ministry has urged people not to travel to the Middle East country "unless it is strictly necessary."
The Ministry said in a statement: "We are available to provide humanitarian assistance and consular help " to compatriots in Egypt, where there is chaos in the streets after days of mass protests aimed at ending the iron fisted reign of Hosni Mubarak.
Panama’s Government also called for dialogue, cessation of violence and respect for human rights in the Arab Republic.
The call was made for Egypt to respect "freedom of expression, assembly and association."
A press release also said Panama expressed "deep concern over the loss of life resulting from the violence and the use of force against demonstrators” in Egypt.
