Second death at Avenida Balboa construction site

A 25-year old construction worker was killed Thursday morning (January 20) after falling from the 46th floor of a construction project on Avenida Balboa.

It was the second death at the Tower Rivage site adjacent to the Café Balboa. Last year sheet metal fell from from a crane and killed a taxi driver and injured his wife.

Abdiel Sagel, Chief Inspections Officer at the Ministry of Labor, told RPC Radio that work on the project was suspended until further notice. The man worked for a window installation company and was apparently not wearing a safety harness or a rope.
On Friday scores of construction workers sat in the shade near a school opposite the site while authorities inspected the building to check  whether or not it meets the necessary safety standards.
After the previous accident the authorities promised to increase the number of inspectors from 75 to 300.
