Call for water conservation in parts of Panama city
Residents in some parts of Panama city have been warned to conserve water as high turbulence in Lake Alajuela continues to cause problems with potable water production.
During a flyby of the lake officials from the National water authority (IDAAN) reported that the entire lake – source of the crude water for the treatment plant in Chilibre was brown. There was also a lot of mud, dirt, and trees, described as "troubling."
Residents of San Francisco, Río Abajo, Parque Lefevre, and Chanis, get their water from Chilbre. Officials say they have managed to clean seven of the 10 sediment pools at the plant and once all are cleaned, there will be " better conditions for treatment, quality, and quantity of drinking water” but the sediment could become murky again, so conservation is essential.
