Panama visitor free insurance plan back on for January
Starting January 15, visitors arriving at Tocumen International Airport in Panama will be able to collect free health insurance.
The news comes just 10 days after the tourism authority announced it was handing over $3 million set aside for the plan, to help fund garbage collection the project is back on stream.
Generali Insurance had received the contract to operate the system in September. In early December Tourism Authority Director Solomon Shamah said:"We have not implemented the insurance because the contract has not been endorsed by the Comptroller,"
The annual budget for the insurance scheme is $4 million.
Generali will ensure each tourist for $1.95. Each visitor will be given a pamphlet containing an identification card for beneficiaries.
This card must be presented together with a passport if the visitor needs medical care. The policy covers medical expenditures up to $7,000, and if the visitor needs to be transferred to another medical center, overseas transportation up to $40,000 will be provided It also Contains $20,000 in coverage if a visitor dies while in Panama. The coverage lasts 30 days.
It will be voided if visitor is injured while consuming drugs or under the influence of alcohol. Extreme sports and natural phenomenon are also excluded.
