Panama trails in decreasing poverty
Panama, which boasts one of the highest levels of economic activity in Latin America, trails Argentina, Venezuela, and Peru in reducing poverty.
Latin American countries managed to get 41 million people out of poverty since 2002, by improving income distribution, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
Panama achieved a poverty reduction bordering on 10 percent. Argentina, Venezuela, reduced poverty by 20% to 30%, said ECLAC.
The number of people living in poverty in the region has fallen to 180 million people driven by counter-cyclical fiscal and social policies, according to the regional entity.
