Mayor Bosco on another direct buying spree
Panama’s mayor, Bosco Ricardo Vallarino announced Tuesday (November 30) that he will ask City Council to authorize direct contracting for the purchase of 25,000 toys,
These, he says, are to be to handed out during the upcoming holiday season when he plans to spend $960,000 on 18 Christmas villages on the Cinta Costera.
The event last year led to scores of thousands of dollars in damage to grass, trees and facilities.
This has not dulled the mayor’s optimism for his pet project, which he claims will attract half a million visitors.
Last year his controversial decision to buy toys directly from Mays Zona Libre, and the unequal distribution pattern upset councilors and the public.
Many toys were delivered late and others handed out to deputies and councilors with no accounting involved.
