Panamas garbage crisis now a state problem

Panama’s ongoing garbage crisis and should be a priority of the state says Salo Shamah, the country’s tourist czar.

Shamah, who will be part of the board of directors of the new national garbage agency, said that the efficient collection of garbage is key to ensuring citizens have a healthy environment to live in, and there should be no lapses in service. He said that previous attempts to decentralize garbage collection didn't work:"We cannot deny that Panama is in crisis,"

Shamah said there were municipalities like David where  where collection is timely, where  agency will not make any changes, but in Panama City some neighborhoods have had garbage piling up for over a week.
