Government firing broom sweeps through environmental agency
The firing of Panama government employees, described by some as a political clean out, continues.
Workers demonstrated last week at the Social Security offices over what they call rigged dismissals. Two workers have been on a hunger strike for over three weeks.
Now the broom has moved to the environmental agency Anam where a number of senior officials have been fired.
The government confirmed the dismissal od Mixila Muñoz, director of Assessment and Environmental Management; Carmen González, director of Protected Areas and Wildlife; Silvano Vergara Vásquez, director of Integrated Management of River Basins; and Clever González, director of Public Relations.
Secretary General, Patrick Fahy avoided the axe but has been moved to a posit as advisor to the Climate Change Unit.
