Figali unable to keep appointment with prosecutor

Panama businessman Jean Figali, held on charges of laundering money from drug trafficking, was a no show at the Organized Crime investigator’s office on Monday, August 30.

The director of the El Renacer prison, Jose Batista, did not authorize his trip.

Figali’s legal team saidtheir client was willing to meet with the investigator, but was not allowed to travel with the group of other defendants who went to the investigatot’s office.
Carlos Carrillo, said that prosecutors had sent an official letter to El Renacer for the entrepreneur to expand his statement in the case of money laundering from drug trafficking.

Prosecutors began the investigation against Figali, after the Financial Analysis Unit found irregularities in the purchase of jewelry made by Figali’s company to a firm in San Miguelito.

That company was raided in 2006 when over two thousand kilos of cocaine was seized. {jathumbnail off}
