Business Executives claim crisis in Panamas justice system
The Panamanian Association of Business Executives APEDE says that there is "a crisis in the administration of justice and the country’s institutions."
The announcement follows the sentencing of former Attorney General Ana Matilde Gomez, to six months imprisonment for authorizing a wire tap on a prosecutor being investigated for allegedly asking for a bribe. In a statement signed by the president, Francisco De Ycaza, the Associaton says that there is a widespread perception that the justice system is in crisis.
"Regardless of the strict legality or otherwise of the processes in the case of the Attorney, there is an undeniable truth and that is that the country’s image has been adversely affected," said De Ycaza.
