No rush to pick up license plate stickers
The drive is on to distribute license plate stickers to motorists in Panama who have been without them since the start of the year but there is no rush to get them.
On Monday, August 16, stickers for the registration months of February were available for pick up. The previous week January stickers were being handed out. But the mayor’s office which has caused the problem, has found that people are staying away in droves.
After an eight month wait, the majority of drivers don’t seem to feel that there is any sense of urgency.
The hours of operation of the centers are from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
To get their stickers, motorists simply need to present their original payment receipt, according to information released by the Municipality.
The issuing of license plate stickers will be carried out weekly until October, with each week corresponding to a specific month.
The mayor says he is has 300,132 decals to sidtribute covering the months January through September this year, After that he claims, decals for the remaining months will be delivered on a regular basis. The city began handing out the stickers on Monday August 9 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m.
After the first week only 8,900 were picked up, meaning that the majority are still sitting in city offices.
