Protests against Law 30 cause traffic jams in Panama

Demonstrators returned to the streets of Panama on Thursday (August 12) with continuing protests calling for the total repeal of law 30 and to complain about the continuing rise in the cost of living.
Workers and students from the University of Panama carried out a peaceful demonstration on Transistmica at the entrance to the University of Panama.
Workers also shut down Avenida Balboa and the Cinta Costera for short periods near one p.m. The demonstrations were peaceful but led to motorists driving over grass merideans and traveling in the wrong direction on one way streets. Although the protests took place opposite a National Police Station, no police were on hand to catch the traffic violators

The protesters, carried banners and chanted slogans against the government, demanding repeal of the controversial  Act 30, which has been opposed by workers, environmentalist, legal and civil groups.
