Higher than usual tides produce flood alert

Extraordinary high tides in excess of 18 feet on Panama’s Pacific Coast, startin Monday, August 9, have brought a tide alert from the country’s civil defense agency Sinaproc.
High tide Monday will be at about 9 p.m., and the warning said the unusually high tides will last for nearly a week. Any heavy rains during that period could cause higher-than-usual flooding.
The agency has warned people to take appropriate precautions, especially those living in areas prone to flooding.
