Panama Police to get second pay raise
Panama’s president, Ricardo Martinelli has promised that the country’s police officers, will get a second pay raise in the 2011 budget.
He made the announcement yesterday in Gamboa during a graduation ceremony for Border Patrol agents.
Police got a $100 raise pay soon after the government took office in 2009.The latest increase was suggested by the Crusade for Peace, a civic organization that is advising the government on security issues. One of the group’s 14 recent proposals was to increase wages for police to help eliminate corruption.
Martinelli also announced that the government will purchase six helicopters to help crack down on drug trafficking whilw the Italian government will donate six patrol boats.
