Warrants against 17 Panama strike leaders withdrawn

Panama’s Assistant Attorney General, Ángel Calderón, has announced  that the warrants issued for at least 17 union leaders, who supported the general strike have been withdrawn.
Calderón said he ordered the Judicial Investigation Department (DIJ), to suspend the warrants that had been issued against the leaders.
In the investigation against the 17 union, teacher, and student leaders, charges were formulated for alleged conspiracy to commit a crime and actions against collective security. Among those targeted by the prosecution were: Saúl Méndez, Genaro López, and Juan Jované.
The prosecutor said, on Monday, he met with at least 11 attorneys representing the leaders and told them he was going to "reevaluate" the situation of each of them.
