Expats and local fans turn out for opening World Cup games

Football (soccer) supporters were out in strength for the TV presentations of the opening ceremonies and the early games of the World Cup. 

Celbrating the first goalThe first goal of the 32 nation tournament was scored by host country South Africa which went on to tie the opening game with Mexico 1-1 after narrowly missing victory in the closing minutes when a ball that eluded the goalkeeper, hit the upright.
The first local prize went to Volker Hevler, who won the tombola at Rincon Aleman on Calle 51, where a strong contingent of fans turned out for a hearty breakfast and a thrilling opening game. There were quiz prizes, half time entertainment, music, free horns and clappers and more…  a rousing send of for the month long celebration of the world’s most popular sport.

The tombola will be repeated at every German home game and a price discounted menu will be offered throughout the tournament.

England and  the United  States, currently at loggerheads over the BC oil spill, will swift their focus to solving another dispute when they make their first appearances  in the tournament on Saturday June 12 … against each other. {jathumbnail off}
