UP leader says no legal weight to suspension of Attorney General
The chairman of the Patriotic Union (UP), Aníbal Galindo- says "there was insufficient evidence, or legal weight" to end the term of office of suspended Attorney General, Ana Matilde Gomez.
He clarified that his position is not based on supporting the individual but argued that suspending an Attorney General of the Nation "even temporarily, is a very important decision, and reasons must be of great weight."
He said that, in the case of Gómez, there is no reason to justify suspension or much less a conviction on a situation that at no time was a crime or serious misconduct. and he hoped she would to enjoy all rights and due process.
Gomez was suspended from office on Feb. 5 by a ruling of the Court becauseof a complaint for alleged abuse of authority brought by former prosecutor Archimedes Sáez, who was fired by Gomez after being caught red-handed taking a bribe. Gomez was suspended based on a ruling of the Court, which declared wiretapping, which she authorized during an undercover operation, unconstitutional..
