Metro train plans get first cut

They haven’t started building yet but the The first phase of the Metro train project is already facing cut backs.
The much trumpeted line will now have 12 stations, four fewer than had originally been planned although, the length of the proposed route, between Albrook and Los Andes, remains unchanged.
The stations to be eliminated, El Ingenio, Brasil and Bella Vista, while the fourth, El Marañón, but will be only partially built and will not be operating in the first phase. No date has been set for a second phase. The first is scheduled to be completed in 2014.
The decision to reduce the number of stations is based on the intention to "reduce the amount of work in order to reduce project costs and enhance the completion of the work," says a government statement.
Metro Executive Secretary Roberto Roy said the decision was made some time ago. Eliminated stations can be served by other stops he said.
