What the papers say: Excesses and debauchery
Excesses and debauchery have been the main reasons leading the Government to suggest that the mayor of the capital establish mandatory closing times for bars and taverns says La Prensa.
The initiative seeks greater control over the rising wave of violence and vehicle accidents caused by drunk drivers. But the measure also gives brings at least a little peace. The neighbors of bars and nightclubs are victims of abuse from customers and owners of commercial establishments dispensing alcoholic beverages.
This is a solution that will not end all the problems created by the evening’s activities, but will certainly help to improve the precarious security. Cities in developed countries like the United States or Latin America, including Colombia, have adopted such laws successfully. Panama has a model to follow if the mayor agrees to the Government’s suggestion
We hope that the rights of thousands of people affected by others, prevail over those of a few entrepreneurs who have shown an intolerable disregard for the rights of people.
