Dictatorship era soldiers back in office
Old soldiers never die. A group of soldiers discharged or expelled from the National Police (PN) after the U.S. invasion, are back in office says La Prensa.
They include eight participants in a 1990 coup attempt against Panama’s then newly elected president, The coup attempt was by former Colonel Eduardo Herrera against then President, Guillermo Endara.
Among those returned is Francisco Herrera, brother of Eduardo Herrera, who was arrested after being linked to meetings with union leaders who had alleged coup purposes.
Today, Herrera is the principal adviser to the director of the police Gustavo Perez, also decommissioned in 1990, when linked to arresting American citizens during the invasion.
