Water prices increasing without discussion — a pot hole tax next.?

From the sidelines

Are you ready for a pot hole tax? Well it’s not on the cards yet, but if someone decided to slip it in, maybe no one would notice.

Not like the citizens of what is now Casco Viejo near the end of the 19th century when the French canal was still under way. They objected stongly to paying for filling in holes in the roadway in front of their homes.
Todays citizens appear to be more docile, or apathetic.
Water bills will soon be going up by as much as $4.59 a month but in the last three months not one person or business has commented on it.
Newsroom gets more comments to published stories in one hour than Idaan, Panama’s water and sewage company, has received since January about  its proposal to jack up fees for sewage service, and on Thursday (April 15) the deadline for user input will have expired.
In spite of initial criticism when Idaan announced at the start of the year, the creation of an extra fee for sanitary sewer service. not one person has raised a peep on the utility’s complaint site.
Is it just apathy or relief as users realize that this might be a first step towards fixing the overloaded structure, and the final disappearance of black water in the streets in front of some the city’s upscale condos?
It is proposed that the residential sector pay an additional 15 and 26 percent of the amount on their water bills, while commercial and industrial sector would pay between 39 and 49 percent. This means that system users would pay between 65 cents and 4.49 dollars a month.
According to Idaan there are a thousand miles of sanitary sewers in the capital. Of these, 20 percent are obsolete or poorly located. In many areas, the pipes were made for a much lower density and are also affected by the roots of trees.
So are we too apathetic to comment, or just happy to pay to help solve the problem?
The reaction should be an inspiration for those seeking to solve the city’s deteriorating road problems.
A pot hole tax coming up?
