Hello spring, goodbye snow, celebration
Out and About
Spring is in the air for Canadian’s with distant memories of snow shovels, and the winter blahs.
Even in Panama, permanent expats like to welcome the "northern" season of renewal.
The newly revitalized Canadian Association of Panama is marking the change of seasons this week, Thursday April 8, at Oldies restaurant and bar where there will be specially priced snacks and ale (or a soft drink). But you don’t have to be Canadian to attend.
If you are one, know one, or would like to meet one, or just improve your English with some Canadian expressions like eh, Canuck, loonie and toonie, this is the place to be.
It will also be the time to find out about some of the major events planned by the Association for the current year, including some social and community projects. It will also be seeking input from those who attend.
The Association, whose motto is “Friendship Without Borders” welcomes members of all nationalities, the only qualifier is an interest in the big country to the north, a soon to be Free Trade partner with Panama.
Membership is just $20 a year for an individual or $30 for family membership.
But even if you don’t want to join you will be welcome at their social events including celebration of Canada Day at a special function in July, a Canadian Thanksgiving dinner (that’s in October and is one of Panama’s most enjoyed social events) and monthly get togethers to share gossip and information and to welcome and assist newcomers. {jathumbnail off}
Oldies is on Calle 39 in Bella Vista. It’s the road that leads up to the National Hospital. Turn off Avenida Balboa at where the Marbella restaurant once stood. The Sign is still there.. You will find Oldies in the second block. on your left. You don’t have to be an oldie and the Association guarantees no spring snowfall.
