Enjoying a cool breakfast with a new live radio showIn English
By David Young
"Cool" Radio in Panama is about to get a little cooler. Local English radio veteran Gerry Dowden will be hosting a new live morning program, starting April 5.
The Breakfast Show on 89.3 (Cool FM) will run from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., Monday to Friday and will be an eclectic mixture of music, news and local information.
Those who have listened to GerryD on his “Cool” evening programs or on his trail blazing Sunday evening broadcasts which are picked up across the American continent, will be familiar with his easy going style, and his encyclopedic knowledge of music.
On a recent visit to Oldies, where they play vintage videos of music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, he was correctly able to identify some 98 percent of the performers. (He promises to go back to memory training school).
But although he will not forego his laid back presentation and occasional acerbic comments, he promises the program “will not send you back to sleep.”
The format will be “lively morning music with a cool twist”, spiced up with his own brand of humor, developed during his years broadcasting for the RAF (Royal Air Force) in the Middle East, broadcasting to hospital patients(who apparently still surived) in London and since 2006 in Panama. It will also include news bulletins, and listener participation. So have your cell phone ready.
The daily local news broadcast will go out at 8 a.m., with news researched by Newsroom Panama, and presented by Newsroom Editor David Young, whose journalism career includes time with the BBC’s Today show, and as a contributor to the CBC and GerryD’s Sunday evening programs.
Newsroom will also be providing information on entertainment and coming events which will be aired twice weekly.
Gerry’s current “Cool nights” broadcasts will end on March 18, and the cool breakfasts will be on air Monday April 5.
