Coln to continue as cruise start point

Royal Caribbean cruises, will continue to use Colon at as a departure point for at least two more seasons.

The U.S. cruise line has confirmed that there will be a fourth season with Colon  as the home port off the northern coast of Panama.
The second season has been underway since last December and is expected to end in coming April.
The cruise company had previously confirmed a third season from November 2010 to April 2011, in which they will premiere a new ship – the “Grandeur of the Seas,” with a capacity of 2,446 passengers.
The upcoming season, says La Prensa, will also incorporate a second route to visit Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and Roatan.
During the launching of the first two seasons, Michael Ronan, Vice-President of Royal Caribbean, said that in order to continue to choose Panama as a home port "passengers taking the cruise must be satisfied, the product would have to generate profits for the company, and there would have to be a clear future demand.”
In the first season of the home port – the only one that has been completed and for which statistics are available, an estimated 20,502 tourists, mainly from Panama (6,088) and Colombia (5,697), boarded the Enchantment of the Seas, according to the Ministry of Government and Justice and Colón 2000.
