Criminals and garbage rounded up as Carnival ends

A bright spot for the National Police (PN) during Carnival was the snagging of 145 miscreants with outstanding arrest warrants

Using a new electronic verification system, allowing patrolling police to connect directly to the information center of the Judicial Investigation Department to verify documents and   records the police arrested people on the "wanted" and instead of the joys of Carnival, many headed to the cells of Joyita prison.

A police spokesman said they were are surprised by the results, as detentions exceeded expectations.

Meanwhile the Municipal garbage collectors picked up 102 tonnes or rubbish on Via Espana during the early festivities and were busy collecting another 25 tonnes on Wednesday morning prior to the reopening of the thoroughfare to receive some of the 133,000 vehicles crawling back to the city
