Annual war on potholes begins
The annual attack on Panama’s potholes has begun as a “temporary solution” while tenders are sought for a billion dollar reconstruction of highways.
The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) launched its summer “Operation Roads” on Monday to take advantage of the four months of dry season to patch up the roads.
Sixty tons of asphalt were poured into potholes on the first day.
The project plans to cover an estimated 258,920 square provinces across the country.
Ministry of Public Works (MOP) Director Federico Suárez, said he expects that by the end of the project, "not a single pothole will be left un-patched.
Suárez said the MOP will be calling for tenders for the major project in the next few months … giving time for the potholes to re-appear.
