2010: The year of the yellow taxi
It’s a New Year custom in Panama to give yellow panties to wives or lady friends. For the public at large this year, it will be the gift of yellow taxis.
With only three days left for taxis to meet the frequently extended deadline for painting their vehicles yellow, Transit Authority director Jorge Ricardo Fabrega is optimistic that the deadline will be met and enforced.
But as of December 27 dozens of cars of any color but yellow and labeled taxi, were still hurtling around the streets, and declaiming “no voy” (not going there) when hailed by a customer.
Many taxi owners have complained about the prices of painting, but it has escalated over the years as they have avoided meeting previous deadlines
Fabrega says all drivers in Panama City must meet the deadline.
The paint shops will have to work overtime.
