Mozart opera to aid scholarship winners
THREE talented members of Opera Panama will be appearing in a Mozart comic opera “on October 6-7 to raise funds to travel to Europe for recently awarded scholarships.
Alfonso Baysa, tenor, Gaciela Saavedra, oprano, and Susan Samudio, soprano, all with blooming careers with Opera Panama, under the direction od Ireana Sylyia ,have won scholarships for MasterClasses at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and private tuition for coaching at the Vienna State Opera in Austria. All three recently won the first round of the Trujillo Vocal contest in Peru.
Mozarts delightfully comic s, “Der Schauspieldirektor” (The Impressario will be performed at the Teatro National in Casco Viejo with subtitles in English and Spanish.
Mozart described the singspiel first performed in 1786 as a “comedy with music”
In modern times, the text is usually completely rewritten for contemporary relevance and for Panama’s first performance thedialogue has been updated by Juan José Martin and Alejandro Chacon of Bogota’s Opera de Colombia.
Chacon will be staging the opera and Carlos Aransay who is on staff at London’s Covent Garden will be conducting.
