OPINION; The inequality virus

The national government has begun to articulate economic initiatives to deal with the “day after” the pandemic. This will not only imply the use of funds obtained in international loans, but will require a new prioritization of public investment in Panama. Although appropriately beginning to serve the most visibly affected sectors of the economy, it is fair to take into account the urgent needs of the most vulnerable and neglected groups in this crisis: older adults, indigenous peoples, people with disabilities, LGBTI groups, uneducated youth and undocumented foreigners. The pandemic has hit us all, both in the health and economic dimensions. Nevertheless, the most vulnerable should not be forgotten by the authorities and organizations in charge of helping the country to get out of this crisis. It is also time to eradicate the virus of inequality and exclusion. – LA PRENSA, Apr. 15
