Two former presidents stain Panama’s image
It is no longer one, but two former presidents designated corrupt by the US government, and both are accused in the Odebrecht case. The two have stained the image and good name of Panama, so neither of them deserves contemplation when the weight of the law falls on them for that display of corruption in which they would have taken part with one of the most unpresentable companies in the world.
This new corruption designation announced by the US Secretary of State says a lot about the participation of former President Juan Carlos Varela in the Odebrecht perversion scheme, from which former President Ricardo Martinelli did not escape either, whose sons betrayed him in the US, at the same time who were sentenced in that country for crimes derived from Odebrecht’s corruption, while in Panama we are still awaiting trial.
This new designation should not come as a surprise, since the defendant himself confessed to having received dirty money from Odebrecht to finance his campaigns. Both appointments are a warning to today’s rulers, who triangulate State resources for the same purposes as these two former presidents, who have received what they deserve, at least from abroad – LA PRENSA, Jul 14.
