What the papers say: Mayors garbage failure

The citizens of Panama and the Ministry of Health are worried about the performance of the mayor over the collection of garbage, and the government is considering taking over the problem.

In an hoy por hoy editorial, La Prensa said:
In the past administration, the opposition, and even the ruling party frequently and sarcastically asked the mayor, Juan Carlos Navarro, who was collecting the garbage. Today, the new mayor Bosco Vallarino cannot even be asked that.
The government has had to intervene, not just to allocate funds to collect garbage in the capital, but is considering completely taking over the service.
And in the midst of what has been the worst crisis in garbage collection in recent years, reports that prices of new trucks to make ordered without competitive bidding, are inflated.

The President’s action if the mayor has not noticed is a clear criticism of his administration plagued by scandals and failures.
The mayhor has maintained a prudent silence. The government has started acting for him, and no wonder. Even the Ministry of Health has issued warnings about the serious situation which may occur because of the accumulation of trash. If things go well, the city will become a shell. If the mayor cannot collect the garbage, then we do not know what else he will do
