What the papers say: No justice for fire victims

La Prensa. Hoy por Hoy. (April 21) The victims of the fire on the bus 8B-06, in October 2006, have suffered another blow. While the previous government and the present administration have striven to indemnify the owners of buses for their old junk vehicles, relatives of passengers who died or were burned in the fire don’t get a penny.

The Supreme Court denied that possibility, saying that the authorities have no responsibility for what happened that evening in which 18 people were burned to death. As usual, some judges of the Court absolved the authorities from their duty, to spare them their deserved derision for the lightness with which they often act.

There have been few days in which users do not complain of the bad conditions of the buses, accidents and careering, drunk or drugged drivers or their long medical records. But nothing has been done to stop enabling these outlaws  to act with the certainty of impunity. Today, the court punishes the victims and rewards those officials who did not lift a finger to end the chaos. This is  the justice of our Supreme Court.
