Panama’s Pele police nab 6,408 violaters
If you have an outstanding traffic fine, or any other kind of conviction. Panama's National police using a hand held device (pele police) have caught nearly 6,500 people with outstanding warrants.
Police spokesman Eric Fruto said that 1,511 were immediately detained, (56 on the weekend alone)while the remainder were issued appearance tickets.
Among those caught was suspect carrying a firearm and another had drugs in his possession. One person, José Adrian Ramírez, had escaped from prison.
Police have used the handheld devices to check motorists at roadblocks for outstanding offenses, mostly unpaid traffic tickets.
The use of the devices has resulted in a multi-million dollar windfall for the transport authority, ATTT. {jathumbnail off}
