Presidents supermarket could face fines for illegal billboards

Super 99, the supermarket chain owned by President Ricardo Martinelli is among Illegal advertisers on the TransAmerica Highway that could face heavy fines.

After multiple warnings and a three month grace period the Ministry of Public Works (MOP)  moved Thursday to identify illegal billboards  prior to removing them. It  is part of a program to clear up the visual pollution on highways across the country. They started in Campana in the Capira District and found billboards promoting residential properties and other commercial products.

Minister of Public Works, Federico Suárez, has  been consistent in warning that companies that do not comply with the removal order will be fined.

Super 99 is also a major advertiser on the giant illuminated billboard that overhangs Avenida Balboa that has been the subject of  fruitless protests by residents from Paitilla to Casco Veijo.
