Panamas garbage crisis over garbage chief

The crisis of poor garbage collection in Panama City has ended according to the head of the urban and household collection authority (AAUD).

"The issue of the garbage crisis is over," Enrique Ho Fernandez said on  TVN News  on Friday July 22.

Last December, when collection was in the hands of the Metropolitan Council under the direction of Mayor Bosco Vallarino, the city was "spoiled,” said Ho.

AAUD today is regulating of the waste collection service and collects collected between 950 and 1000 tons of garbage daily.

But, he said, the authority does not yet have the equipment necessary to comply fully with the capital it requires.

Next week  the city will call  for a tender for a new team that would ensure daily collection in certain areas.
