$30 million facelift for two Panama favorites

Two of Panama’s most used recreation spots, Via Argentina and Calle Uruguay are about to get a $30 million facelift.

The project includes putting cables underground, expanding sidewalks, improved drainage and  installation of new street furniture.

The budget   also covers the construction of underground parking  for 850 cars, 400 at Uruguay  and 450 at Argentina.

The Municipality has put the  contract out for tender  and proposals are due by September 21.

Construction could be completed in 2013.

The project was originally led by the Ministry of Public Works, but slid off their  priority radar a so  the municipality  stepped in and  will use equity and loan financing.
