Metro Bus shelter construction awaiting final green light

The stalled construction of of new Metro bus shelters for Panama  is set to go ahead if the city council approves  a resolution reached between the finance committee and the Panama’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP).

The Council Finance Committee,   approved on Friday, September 25, a resolution saying that the MOP has the right to decide where to place stops, in agreement with the company Urban Equipment Panama, SA, and with the approval of the Transport authority (ATTT). The MOP will  also define the number of stops, and the dimensions and technical specifications of the shelters.
The Council  has ensured its  participation in any future changes by introducing an article in the resolution stating  that any changes   will be with the agreement of the contracting parties, and go through the full approval  process of the Council .
According to Council President, Carlos Perez Herrera, this will safeguard the interests of local autonomy and  heritage.
Minister of the Presidency, Jimmy Papadimitriu said that approval of the contract will allow progress on the construction of the stops, needed for 700,000 users of the public service.
