Inac chief fired and reinstated by Martinelli
President, Ricardo Martinelli, has ordered the reinstatement of Maria Eugenia Herrera as CEO of the National Culture Institute (INAC). He fired her in September, and a new director was appointed.
The decision is based on a motion for reconsideration filed by Herrera, said the Ministry of Communication and adding that "important institutions of Panamanian cultural activities have been concerned by the departure of the official, acknowledging the positive work done during her tenure at the institution."
Herrera belongs to the Panamenista. Party, which announced Aug. 30 the breaking of the alliance with Democratic Change (CD).
The decree No. says that "it is a fact that Maria Eugenia Herrera has dedicated much of herlife to the development of national culture, standing from achild as a member of the National Ballet dance school, occupying the Management of the Company, and being designated in 2009 as director general of proven merit.
The new decree signed by Martinelli puts aside the administrative action issued in September. It coincides with the announcement that a Unesco delegation is heading for Panama to discuss the options for the siting of the third stage of the CInta Costera. Herrera was part of Panama’s delegation that promised a hold on construction until reviews were prepared and submitted to Unesco.
