Work on Cinta Costera Phase 3 underway
Work on the third phase of the Cinta Costera has started in spite of commitments to delay and with a meeting between the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) and Panamanian authorities still pending.
On the Cinta Costera in mid-afternoon Tuesday there were signs of things to come as teams began erecting fences, and traffic ground to a halt.
In El Chorrillo, the Avenue of the Martyrs and the coastal strip signs describing the $776.9 million project and the approval of three environmental impact studies in September are already up.
On the coastal strip at the end near the Fish Market, fencing was erected in the area where a breakwater will be built near the Panama Pier.
A temporary walkway for visitors to the area is also being constructed.
In the area of ??El Chorrillo there are earthworks at the Maracana stadium, which will be the storage area for equipment and materials.
Diaz Fernando Jaramillo of the Alliance for Justice, regretted that the work has begun without first meeting with Unesco, "because Panama's commitment was to suspend the entire project and not one of its parts.”
