Social development program asks for more

The director of the Social Development Program (Prodec), Vladimir Herrera, says that it will request an increase in the contributions from the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) to fund expanding projects.

The ACP recently announced the biggest income increase in its history.

Herrera explained that the costs of building materials have increased and in  the short term more money will be needed to finance their projects.

Prodec  is currently working with a budget of $50 million dollars a year from the ACP, to meet works in 623 townships.

Herrera said that the projects are funded regardless of which party is running the township. "We also ask that the program be extended beyond 2016."
