Crackdown on parking violaters

The Transport Authority  (ATTT) and the Traffic Operations Division (DOT) of the National Police have stepped up ticketing  of illegally parked cars as part of the campaign to ease traffic jams, but most drivers  see little change.

Since April 23.  6,021 tickets have been handed out to reduce what Jorge Miranda, director of the DOT calls: " the  parking evil which is a negative attitude of most Panamanian drivers.” 

Meanwhile, the director of the ATTT, Juan Pablo Mora, said that even before the present congestion they were discussing further measures to streamline traffic in the district of Panama.

During the parking crackdown, the men and women with the ticket books got other hauls.: 1,963 for expired plates and  1,270 for expired licenses.

Of the totals handed out  the ATTT booked 5,063  for illegal parking, 1,850, for expired plates and 872 for expired licenses.

The  police totals were 958 for illegal parking, 778 for expired plates and 398 for  expired driving licenses.
