$500 fines for parking on disability spots
Life is about to become more expensive for motorists who like to park their vehicles on spots reserved people with disabilities.
The National Assembly approved on Wednesday, January 23, in third debate, a draft law that will levy fines of $500 on drivers parking in those blue painted spaces and will assess the same fine on businesses that fail to allocate five percent of their parking spaces for the disabled.
The current fine for both violations is $50.
The government will give 50 percent of the revenue generated from these fines to the National Secretariat for Disabilities.
Last year, newspapers published photos of a police car parked on the disability spot outside a fast food restaurant.
