Martinelli denies government wiretapping of opponents

PRESIDENT Ricardo Martinelli said Monday June 10, that recent allegations of government wiretapping and recording of conversations by members of the opposition is just a move to divert attention in the country.

Martinelli reiterated that the government has had nothing to do with the recordings.

"There are people who still want to blame the government for things that it has nothing to do with," said the president.
Martinelli noted that PRD Deputy Raúl Pineda who was one of those recorded, said last week that he thinks people in his own party would be linked to the recordings.
PRD official Javier Martínez Acha, also the subject of recordings, insisted on Monday that the government is the only one with the ability to make the recordings.
