Metro subway 90% complete

The Panama Metro works are 90% complete and the subway is likely to be "almost ready" in mid-October this year, when the country hosts IberoAmericano XXIII.

President Ricardo Martinelli made the statement on Friday, July 9 while conducting journalists on a tour of Metro Line 1.

"It's almost ready and when on October 18 the presidents of Latin America, the King of Spain and the President of Portugal, we can give them a ride," said Martinelli.
He said that the modern system, when operating next year, will be of "substantial assistance" to solve the transportation problem in the city of Panama.
The Martinelli Metro tour started at the Cinco de Mayo station, in the center of the capital, where only finishing work needs to be done
The inspection tour included the area of yards and workshops in Ancon, on the banks of the Panama Canal, where the trains are being assembled after arriving in the country.
In December 2010, Panama awarded the contract for the construction of the first Metro line to 1-Line Consortium, formed by construction FCC, of Spain, and Odebrecht, Brazil.
