Popular Party congress affirms People First alliance

THE PARTIDO Popular (PP) on Sunday, August 24, in spite of vocal opposition from a disenting group,approved an alliance with the Panameñista party at an extraordinary national congress.

The alliance, called "People First," is expected to approve a ticket of Juan Carlos Varela as the presidential candidate and Partido Popular President Milton Henriquez as his running mate.

Oppositions of the Alliance reiterated their support for PRD presidential candidate Juan Carlos Navarro.
Henríquez said that each member of the party must respect the alliance because it was approved in a democratic manner.
"Therefore, either they can support it or be quiet, since they can't ignore a decision democratically taken by the national congress", he said.
The president said that any conduct of a member which violates the provisions of the party could be subject to disciplinary action.
