Martinelli and political leaders asked to cease attacks

THE PARTIDO POPULAR (PP) has called on Panama's political leaders, especially President Ricardo Martinelli, to cease political attacks.

It said Wednesday October that it is concerned about the recent violence in the country.

The PP said the murder of PRD leader Juan Ramón Messina has aggravated the political situation in Panama.
"This fact and the apparent infiltration of people and money linked to illicit activities are signs that we have to understand that the reform of the political and electoral systems are needed," it said.
The party, led by Milton Henriquez, brother of Minister of the Presidency Roberto Henriquez, has allied itself with the opposition Panameñista Party for the 2014 election.
