More effort needed to weed out bad cops

PANAMA’NATIONAL POLICE Office of Professional Responsibility would do a better job filtering out the rotten eggs in the police force than seat warming in an office where complaints of police abuse are received, says a former top cop

The statement comes from Jaime Abad, former director of the PTJ (Crime Investigation Unit) after a gang of long service police officers including a major, two lieutenants and two sergeants were caught with a shipment of drugs

Abad recalled that a few days ago the Public Security Minister, Jose Raul Mulino, warned of possible narco trafficker interference in politics, but now it turns out that the security sectors are at risk reports La Prensa
He says that this is "lowering the morale of the rest of the members of the National Police and creates distrust in the population"
