Climate change,offers regional business boost
CLIMATE CHANGE could provide a major boost for small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) in Central America. As the attention of the world’s major economies is increasingly turning to climate change the there are opportunities for SMEs which could generate jobs and significant growth by taking advantage of the market openings for clean technologies, which reach up to $1.6 trillion, says a World Bank report.
Latin America and Africa are among the largest markets for SMEs in this sector with potential markets of $349 billion and US $235 billion, respectively.
SMEs are key drivers of job creation. Jobs in clean technologies compare favorably with work in other sectors and, on average, require more preparation.
They are safer and offer better wages. Countries should take measures in key areas of policies in order to fully exploit this potential for growth. providing solutions to the challenges that exist in climate matters locally says the report.
