Former Martinelli Minister under criminal investigation

A SECOND prominent figure from the Ricardo Martinelli era, who at one time had presidential aspirations, is under investigation following spending on lavish accommodation not explained by his earlier declaration of assets.

The Public Ministry has opened an investigation into former Minister of Social Development Guillermo Ferrufino for crimes against public administration related to his purchase of a luxury estate in Pine Hills, Albrook Field.
Public Ministry sources confirmed that the investigation is in the hands of First Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Nahanie Murgas reports La Prensa.
The prosecutor will use a declaration of assets made by the minister upon taking office in 2009 and again when he left this year to determine if he previously had the resources to make such as purchase.
Supreme Court Justice Alejandro Moncada Luna is also facing a criminal investigation by the National Assembly over the purchase of two luxury apartments that he made after taking office.
